The Way Forward

Wesley Chapel Communications CommitteeNews

The Commisssion on a Way Forward was established by the 2016 General Confence to examine paragraphs of the Book of Discipline concerning human sexuality and to explore options to strengthen the unity of the United Methodist Church. The Commission has issued its report, the Judicial Council has reviewed the report at the request of the Council of Bishops and issued its ruling regarding the constitutionality of the proposed options included in the report, and a special session of the General Conference is scheduled to convene in St. Louis, Missouri February 23-26, 2019. Because the issues surrounding the Church’s position on matters of human sexuality may be seen from more than one perspective, the best course of action to be taken is a subject of great concern to United Methodists. We share this information here in an effort to make the huge volume of material and the complexities of each proposal more easily understandable.
