    • Bible Verse of the Day

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
      — Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV)
    • What’s News At Wesley Chapel

      YOU'RE NEVER TOO YOUNG

Toys R Us might be the place “where a kid can be a kid,” but Wesley Chapel UMC is the place for kids to fellowship and have fun while learning about God! Sunday school, Wednesdays in the Word, and Vacation Bible School are “don’t miss” events for kids of all ages. With age-appropriate curriculum, a facility designed just for them, and teachers who meet them where they are, these events are well-attended and well-liked, and they are producing results.

Jakara Talley knows that God loves her a whole lot, that He is nice and He helps people. Jakara, who will soon be seven years old, enjoys coloring and talking about God when she attends Children’s Church, but she also has learned about God in “big church.” Jakara recently told her mom, Jessica, that she wanted to be baptized because she wants to be with God.

On July 30, Jakara was one of three Wesley children baptized by immersion by Pastor Ronnie Miller Yow. Jakara says that Pastor Yow dipped her head in the cold water three times, and now she has a new birthday.

Arlo Washington, Jr. made us all proud on the Sunday he told his grandmother, Patsy O’Guinn Jones, that he wanted to be baptized. Sis. Jones brought AJ up during the invitation, and he told the congregation he was ready.  Nine-year-old AJ says he wants to serve God in his own way. He has learned about God from the Bible and from his dad, who told him he has to please God if he wants to be baptized. AJ also remembers the water being cold when Pastor Yow baptized him, emphasizing each dip into the water with (“In the name of the”) “Father,” “Son,” and “Holy Ghost.” When it was over, AJ felt like God had done something special in his life, and he has already begun reading the Bible more.

Bryce O’Guinn, eight years old, also made known his desire to be baptized during Sunday morning worship. He attends church on a regular basis in Florida, where he lives, but it was while visiting Little Rock during the summer he requested to be baptized. Bryce had participated in Vacation Bible School at Wesley Chapel the previous week. When his dad, Prentice III, was asked if he knew why Bryce chose to be baptized in Little Rock, he responded, “I guess it was just time.”

Vacation Bible School is an annual event held each June. Sunday school begins at 9:30 each Sunday morning. Children’s Church takes place during the 10:45 a.m. Sunday worship experience. Wednesdays in the Word includes adult Bible study sessions at 12:00 noon and at 6:00 p.m., with children’s sessions starting with dinner at 5:30, followed by classes and recreation.

All are welcome to join us as we work toward better relationships with God through studying and living His word.
