      INCREASE

During the month of July Pastor Yow preached a sermon series on increase. In case you missed it, here are some highlights.

"The Secret to Increase" John 15:1-11

Increase must come from God! If it doesn't come from God, it's an infection. God plants you in the right place, uses fertilizer to grow you, and then he prunes you. So, when you wonder why you are in a particular place (a job, perhaps), know that God placed you there for a reason. When you encounter mess in your life, know that God is getting ready to grow you. And when you realize there are some people and/or some things you need to cut out of your life, know that God is pruning you. If Jesus is the vine and God is the gardener, you can't help but increase!

      "A Bad Trade" Genesis 25:19-34

Esau gave away his interitance for temporary satisfaction. We make bad trades when we let our desires control us or when we take bad advice. Esau let his desire for food control him and he took advice from the person who stood to gain the most when he traded his birthright for a bowl of Jacob's stew. Don't allow anything or anyone to come between you and God!

"Wrestling for my Increase" Genesis 32:22-31

Jacob spent his life scheming and scamming until his luck ran out. He found himself needing his brother Esau, who had promised to kill him. Alone in the camp, Jacob wrestled with God, asking God to bless him, until God touched Jacob's hip bone. Sometimes, God will break you to bless you!

"Ask For What You Really Want" 2 Chronicles 1:1-13

God asked Solomon what he wanted, and Solomon replied he wanted wisdom to be a good king. What Solomon asked for was okay, but he later compromised his wisdom, his walk, and his witness by surrounding himself with the wrong people, and being influenced by them. He lost everything. The best answer to God's question of what do you want is "Lord, give me you!." Don't value the assignment over the assignor. We are not servants of God; we are His children, already in possession of all that is God's. So, are you working for God, or is He working through you?
